Columbian Yucca Croquettes

Location 10717 Riverside Drive, Toluca Lake, CA 91602

I owe it all to my better half for bringing this great experience on my birthday. I am no food or restaurant critique, although I have a burning passion for cooking that starts in the aisles of a store or a local farmer’s market, up to the heat of a gas burning stove.

Our evening adventure started with a couple of friends. We were driving through torrent rains trying to find our way guided by a print out of directions from Google Maps. We were trying to beat the evening rush hour and many rivers of knee deep waters flowing through the streets. It was a treasure hunt much like Ponce de León and the Fountain of Youth. The main difference was the celebration of aging instead of a legendary fountain that restores the youth of anyone who drinks of its waters. We were all singing our war cadence with the Gypsy Kings’ beat of “El Toro y la Luna”. “Y ese toro enamorado de la luna…”

Armed with umbrellas and determined hearts, we dismounted our weary motored carriage and entered the dim lit caverns of D’Cache. We were greeted by a foreign accented host that showed us to our accomodations (table reserved for four.) Sangria is always our elixir of choice for special occasions. After reading the unfamiliar peculiarities and specialities of the menu, we had our choices set: Colombian Yucca Croquettes and the Paella Valenciana were it.
Three uniformed musical warriors took center stage and waved their hands like colorful fans on their Spanish Guitars filling the room with sounds of an era far gone in lands across mountains and oceans.
We may not have found the Fountain of Youth but another year had come to a closing with memorable moments with those who I love.

May you have the same or even better experience at D’Cache.
